The Electoral Commission on the 27th and 28th of October, 2020, will receive nominations for the Yapei-Kusawgu in the Savannah Region.
The commission had to reopen nominations for the area for an extended period, in accordance with regulations 13, Subregulation of public elections regulations, 2020(C.I 127), following the untimely demise of the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the area.
The regulation states that" if at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidates dies, a further period of 10 days shall be allowed for nominations"
Mr. Abu Kamara died in a road accident on Friday October 16, 2020, and the regional Party Executives have already recommended his brother, Iddrisu Salia Kamara as his replacement.
According to C.I 127, any other person who intends to contest the seat but failed to file nominations within the first window can now do so.
The EC has decided to reopen nomination for the constituency to allow for the replacement of the candidate.
According to the EC, any person who intends to contest for the parliamentary election should send his or her filled nomination form to the returning officer of the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency, at the Yapei Kusawgu District office of the Electoral Commission on the 27th and 28th October, 2020.
